good-bye, mr salinger

sad and all. I feel like Holden died. and he did, actually

“Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.”

“Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behaviour. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them—if you want to. Just as some day, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry

“I’m sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody.”

„That’s the whole trouble. You can’t ever find a place that’s nice and peaceful, because there isn’t any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you’re not looking, somebody’ll sneak up and write „Fuck you” right under your nose.”

„If you want to know the truth, I’m a virgin. I really am. I’ve had quite a few opportunities to lose my virginity and all, but I’ve never got around to it yet.”

“I am a kind of paranoiac in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy.”

    sad day for holdencaulfields everywhere…
he was the guy who put ‘cool’ in ‘doom’ – & then he quit.
(& for some strange reason, he was considered even cooler after he quit)

    chapeau, mr. j.d.

    twitter indeed.
Holden didn’t do it for me as much as Franny and Zooey, Bananafish, and Teddy. He lived here, in North Carolina, for a long time before he exiled himself even further north in New Hampshire. RIP JD.

J D Salinger’s died,at the age 91 and completely isolated from public life.

The Catcher in the Rye s-a vandut in peste 60 de milioane de exemplare in toata lumea iar Holden Caulfield ramane arhetipul de anti-hero in literatura americana moderna.

    RIP J.D.
